If you’re interested in a career with Bark we would love to hear from you.
Culture
At Bark we don’t have staff, we have Team Members, and each team member plays an integral role in the company – no one person is more important than another. Our culture is based on one underlying principal: Mutual respect and trust; everything we do is based on creating and maintaining enduring partnerships based on this principal, with our team members, clients (and their clients) and our suppliers.
Work – Life Balance
A lot of people talk about work – life balance but what does that actually mean? At Bark, most of our team members work Monday to Friday so they have their weekends free. We understand that sometimes you need to take time off to watch your kids run in the cross country or that you might have an appointment that you need to attend. We try to offer flexibility where we can so that your home and work life complement each other. After all, gardening is a lifestyle and that is what we aim for.
Career
We don’t have jobs at Bark, we have careers. The difference being that a job is somewhere you go to earn money. A career is where you are offered experience and learning to fuel your future – it is a journey, it is progress, it is achievement. Success to us as a company is seeing our team progress and achieve within our network. We provide opportunities for training and upskilling both in-house and on external courses. We try to promote from within where possible and, with sites in 6 regions nationwide there are even opportunities to move around the country.
The Environment
We believe that you can’t be serious about gardens unless you are serious about the environment as a whole. In this regard we walk the talk. We promote biodiversity when designing gardens, we look for natural alternatives to chemicals where we can and we nurture healthy habitats for bees by not using chemicals known to interfere with them; several of our sites even have bee hives. We recycle, we offset our carbon emissions when we fly, we are using e-vehicles where possible and we are making strides towards a paperless office. We are currently in the process of replacing all our tools with electric ones.
Health and Safety
Health and Safety for us is not just flashy words and phrases. Everything we do is to ensure our team go home happy, healthy and knowing they are working in a safe environment. We are focused on making sure that all team members are aware of, and follow our safety procedures and SOP’s, and that they are in a practical and easy to understand format relevant to them, and not focused towards just ticking the boxes.
We are extremely proud that in 25 years of business we have had an exemplary safety record, and we work hard to ensure this continues. Examples of this include providing the best tools, equipment and personal protective equipment to our teams, using natural herbicides and insecticides as our first and second choices and providing quick and easy ways for the teams to communicate incidents and accidents to us. We are continually reviewing and refining our processes and training guides to make being safe as easy as possible for the teams undertaking the work.
Money
It’s expensive to live these days so we are always revising our wage policies. We pride ourselves on remunerating our team well and that is about more than just what you take home in your pocket. We supply our teams with full uniforms, all PPE, tools and equipment. We offer a range of benefits that change from time to time; these currently include annual skin checks and flu injections and we have a corporate health insurance scheme so that you will have access to the best available health care should you need it. And as a thank you for being you, we give you your birthday off – paid!
